Employees in dispute over wages

Employees of Global Strake Security took to the streets on Tuesday, over a wage and bonus dispute.

MOKOPANE – Sipho Mahlangu, Official of Security Cleaning: Manufacturing and Allied Workers Union (SCMAWU) said: “Every month end with pay day the employees don’t receive their wages but instead are serviced with notices of postponement of their wages.”

According to Mahlangu there are outstanding leave payments since 2016 and outstanding bonus to employees who qualify for 2017. “Provident moneys were deducted from employees salaries but were not remitted to the Private Security Sector Provident Fund.”

Mahlangu said the employees are taking their case now to the Department of Labour. “The employees don’t have any other choice seeing that the employers don’t take our grievances seriously.”

Employees of Global Strake Security took to the streets over a wage dispute.

Edmond Ledwaba, Acting Manager of Department of Labor, said he did received the memorandum and grievances of the employees. “I will hand this over to the Manager of the Department of Labour, Magda Glover. Glover will see to it that the necessary investigation and processes are carried out. I cannot give any other comments.”

Employees who qualify for bonus in 2017 claim they never received it.

Mushi Tsebe, Director of Global Strake Security said; “The employees that have these grievances are only a hand full and were all dismissed for various reasons. Lawful procedures were followed and all outstanding issues were resolved through the union and representatives.

According to Tsebe the people who strike now are malicious rioters who want to bring the company’s name in disrepute. “I welcome the Department of Labour if they want to do a investigation in my company I don’t have anything to hide.”
