Double cabs become a target for thugs

Owners of Toyota Hilux double cab bakkies need to be extra vigilant following the recent spate of these bakkies being stolen by criminals in and around the city.

POLOKWANE – The Edwel management, the community policing forum in Eduan Park and Welgelegen, said they were informed by the police that at least four Toyota Hilux double cab bakkies were stolen over the past weeks.

“It seems as if there was an ‘order’ placed for these vehicles. On Friday a white Toyota Hilux double cab, registration DJB 272 L was stolen between 07:00 and 14:00 at a local school and a silver Hilux, registration DHW 127 L was stolen on Saturday,” the spokesperson said.

The police are also on the lookout for an orange Ford Ranger bakkie, registration CYD 983 L, that was stolen recently.

According to the information they received from police, there is a problem with getting the tracking information timeously enough from the owners to assist them with speedily recovering the vehicles.

Edwel suggested that people should store their vehicle’s tracking information on their phones in order to monitor it and assist the police by supplying them with needed information speedily.
