LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson, for the Department of Transport, Joshua Kwapa, a 71-year-old man died in a head-on collision between two bakkies on the R521 near Makibelo village outside Polokwane.

“A driver and one passenger sustained serious injuries and seven other passengers sustained minor injuries,” he said. All were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In the second collision three people died and two seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the R578 in Maswanganyi village outside Giyani. The driver and a passenger sustained serious injuries.

Preliminary information suggest that the accident was caused by fatigue, added Kwapa.

This follows a fatal head-on collision between two sedans near Tobias between Mookgophong and Mokopane on Sunday afternoon. Seven people died and two passengers including a two-year-old child sustained critical injuries.
