Nurse sentenced for selling ARV tablets

Mokgadi Monica Ramusi was sentenced to a R20 000 fine or four years imprisonment of which half was suspended for five years by the Morebeng Regional Court on Friday after she was found guilty of stealing antiretroviral tablets (ARVs) and selling it to the public.
Ramusi, a nurse at Makgotho Clinic, Botlokwa, was arrested in Polokwane in June last year and found in possession of 24 bottles containing ARV tablets. Limpopo Hawks responded to information received about her modus operandi and an undercover officer approached her. She tried to sell the tablets for R7 500 to the officer. She was granted bail of R1 000 soon after her arrest.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke said Ramusi was found guilty on the contravention of the Medicine and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.
He added that investigations indeed revealed that Ramusi stole the tablets from the clinic.
