Malamulele hospital gives amputee a new lease on life

The Malamulele hospital board assisted a man who went for 12 years without a prosthetic leg.

LIMPOPO – Philemon Hlengani Mndlovu from Hasani Dakari outside Malamulele was filled with tears of joy on Friday when members of the hospital board came to his home to surprise him with his new leg.

“I have suffered for many years walking with one leg but last month I received a call from the Department of Health informing me to collect my new leg,” said Mndlovu.

“Now I’m so happy as I can walk long distances without getting swollen; I can go to the shops and stand in queues for pension money without any challenges,” he said.

His leg was amputated in 1980 after an injury at work in Johannesburg.

He is currently living with his wife and three children. His oldest son, Micheal Mndlovu, said the family appreciates the donation by the hospital.

Prince Ngulukhulu, the Chairperson of the Malamulele Hospital board, said they were pleased to assist Mndlovu.

He further pleaded with the community to work together with the board rather than going to the media and speaking negatively about the hospital.
