BREAKING NEWS: Chauke sentenced to life in prison for Serala View Murder

Simon Alex Chauke was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Ignat Oosthuizen, in the Seshego Regional Court on Monday.

POLOKWANE – Chauke pleaded guilty and along with his life sentence, was sentenced to 15 years for robbery, with aggravated circumstances, 15 years for attempted murder, five years for attempted escape from lawful custody and five years for house breaking and theft.

Chauke says he did go to the Oosthuizen’s house with the intention to rob and said he was sober at the time.

A fight led to the death of Ignat Oothuizen and injured his wife, Simoné.

Chauke was arrested in May, 2015.

He escaped from custody in November of the same year, but, was rearrested and remained in custody.

After sentencing, Chauke was taken back to correctional services to begin serving his sentence.

He has not yet said if he will appeal the sentence given.
