LIMPOPO – Limpopo police have strongly condemned the killing of the lions, which are considered protected species.

Police in Marble Hall, outside Groblesdal, have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who killed two lions in Bushfellows Game Lodge on Friday, 11 August.

The owner of the game lodge was patrolling the camp, when he found the two lions and immediately called the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the lions were killed and both their heads and paws were removed and one’s chest was also cut off.

“The police are still investigating the possibility that the lions might have been shot dead,” says police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The killings come days after two lions were killed in Vaalwater, near Lephalale earlier in the week.

Ngoepe says the suspects in the Vaalwater case are still on the run and the manhunt continues.
