Good deeds aplenty with the Calendar for Good app

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) recently launched a feel-good application, the Calendar for Good, to remind users to do something good every day.

POLOKWANE – As soon as you feel good as a person, you tend to make others feel good as well which is what the SANBS intends to achieve with their feel-good application for smartphones.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) recently launched a feel-good application, the Calendar for Good, to remind users to do something good every day. It is free to download and users will receive a notification every day with a suggestion on how to make a difference in someone’s life.

Example: task for 1 August.

Dottie Pinn, SANBS Limpopo Public Relations Officer, explains the application has nothing to do with when you need to donate blood but rather aims to help people make a positive difference.

“Each morning you get a task to do like ‘buy fruit for the people at the traffic light’, ‘buy a chocolate for the reception at your work’ and ‘let someone go ahead of me in a queue’. If you start to do good to others you might start to donate blood as well,” she adds.

Aside from daily suggestions on how to make the world a better place, the SANBS Calendar for Good will also encourage people to make a blood donation – another simple act of kindness, but one that saves lives – and notify users of SANBS activities in which they can participate.

The SANBS Calendar for Good is downloadable for free from the iStore and from the Google Playstore. Simply search for ‘Calendar for Good’ and you’ll find it in no time.

The time can be changed for the notifications to pop up.

Go on, do it. You can spread the word about this new app on your social networks using #calendarforgood. The more good deeds being done, the better the world will be and the more people will be encouraged to make lifesaving blood donations.
