Panarottis Mall of the North will celebrate the strength and beauty of women by offering a special gift for all women on Wednesday, National Women’s Day.
With the reigns at this popular and successful restaurant firmly in her hands, owner Angelique Wolmarans epitomises the heights that women can reach in business.
Her journey in the restaurant industry started in 1997 when she started out as a waiter at Toledo Spur in Rustenburg, gaining valuable experience before becoming a manager in 2000. Wolmarans continued to grow and learn until she was able to invest in Panarottis Mall of the North.
She singles out three people whom she credits as her inspiration. “My husband, Louis, is a co-owner of Amarillo Spur in Mall of the North. He was my first ‘boss’ when I started out and I have learnt a lot about business and people from him. He is passionate about the food industry and I still learn from him every day,” she says. “I have also grown a lot thanks to Joanie Smit, the first Panarottis Area Manager that I worked with, and Tyrone Hertman-Grant, Chief Operations Officer of Panarottis who always keeps my on my toes and from whom I have learnt all my marketing strategies.”
The intrepid entrepreneur is also very fortunate to have a crack team that she can count on. “Many of my employees have been with me at Panarottis Mall of the North since our opening five years ago. My senior managers Tshepo Selemela and Franciscas Komape take a lot of the strain of running a business off my shoulders and are both people that I can rely on. The rest of the team is just as important to the restaurant’s success and when it comes to food, my production team is the best in South Africa,” Wolmarans proudly says.
Wolmarans believes in the personal growth of each person in her employ, but finds that women often have qualities that make them more suitable for the restaurant industry. “Women tend to be more focused on details and see things that men might miss.”
Wolmarans is excited about the future. “We care deeply about the community and are involved in several projects. We have many plans including being involved in children’s home and schools projects that will be launched soon. We cannot wait to start making a real difference in children’s lives.”
