Former Vhembe Mayor’s death a great loss

Irene Mutsila passed away after a short illness at Netcare Pholoso Hospital in Polokwane on Saturday.

LIMPOPO – The death of former Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality and veteran ANC Women’s League member, Irene Mutsila, was described as a great loss to the communities in Vhembe and the entire South Africa as she was a dedicated cadre, a selfless leader and a revolutionary to the end.

Irene Mutsila passed away after a short illness at Netcare Pholoso Hospital in Polokwane on Saturday.

Mutsila (68) of Sibasa Unit A near Thohoyandou served as a member of National Parliament since the dawn of democracy in 1994 and was deployed to Limpopo in 2004 as the Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality from 2006-2007.

Family spokesperson, Avhatakali Themeli, said the family is saddened by her untimely death.

The Chairperson of ANC Vhembe, Tshitereke Matibe, said: “Cde Mutsila served the organisation in various capacities, diligently so as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee.”

According to Matibe, the citizenry of Vhembe can bear testimony to the fact that regardless of the lack of funds, the district under her leadership excelled in accelerating service delivery.

“As an organisation, we wish to convey our condolences to the family. We shall always be with you in this time of mourning,” he added. Mutsila is said to be buried on Saturday, from her family home in Sibasa.
