Lim ANC ‘gravely concerned’ following brutal killing of elderly women

Two elderly women were killed in two separate incidents over the past weekend.

LIMPOPO – The ANC in Limpopo says it is gravely concerned about the continuous killing of women in the province.

This follows the murder of two elderly women, of which one was shot and the other stabbed to death and her lower lip cut off.

“As we enter Woman’s Month, these barabaric and senseless killings remind us to be more vigilant in our struggle to ensure total liberation of women from the last vestiges of triple oppression,” says provincial spokesperson, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.

He has called on all structures in society to come together and commit to defeat the ‘demon of women abuse and killings’.

“Our society must once again become more protective and caring towards its women and children,” he said.

Lim ANC have sent their condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says two suspects have been arrested for the murder of 62-year-old, Mamaila Maria Maluleke.

The two suspects, aged 34 and 37-years-old respectively, were arrested on Monday night, 31 July, by a special police task team in Saselamani.

The suspects will appear before the Saselamani Magistrate Court soon on a charge of murder.

Ngoepe says the manhunt for the suspects who attacked and killed 66-year-old, Linah Ngwenya, in Madalastand, continues.
