Database registration for unemployed locals

In an effort to deal with the high rate of unemployment, Westenburg residents were invited to register their names on a database to help them find work.

POLOKWANE – The database registration is an annual activity in which people who stay in ward 19 (Westenburg area) are invited to register their names on the database to help them find employment.

“These databases are compiled on a regular basis all over South Africa and not only in Limpopo. They are compiled to ensure that our people are employed, whether they have managed to further their studies or not.

“Everyone is afforded a chance to work and better their lives. It has been a challenge reaching the people who previously registered on the database and I assume this is because they have lost the number that they initially registered with on which to be contacted and are unable to notify Human Resources of such misfortunes. This is why some of the residents say that they have not been afforded employment,” said Shaikh Husz.

People came in their numbers to the Westenburg Community Hall last Wednesday to register with the hope that they will soon be employed and be able to support themselves and their families.

An unemployed resident, Johannes Barend, said that the government needs to change the way that they operate these things as the opportunities afforded are not equal.

“The same people are always appointed, I have been unemployed since 2014, and for a grown man it is very embarrassing and degrading to not be able to provide for your family as they depend on you for everything. The children need to eat and go to school. Where will I get the money to pay for all those things? It is not fair, something needs to be done. I am on the database and am still waiting to be employed,” he explained.
