Designated doll-house man

Building anything from planes to stadiums, this artist from Tshipako village offers a different perspective on alternative art

POLOKWANE – Dzulani Trevor Sigodi (29) creates doll houses which he sells in Thohoyandou to earn a living.

In an interview with CV, he said he started creating them when he was still a young boy.

“I started making doll houses at age 11. It was just for fun then and I never thought I could make a living out of it.

“It’s really making a huge difference in my life,” he added.

He further said he uses wood, cardboard boxes and glass to have the final product.

“I have a passion for designing houses.

“I also design aeroplanes and boats,” he added.

As the 2010 Fifa World Cup was characterised by majestic stadiums, he recreated the Moses Mabhida Stadium with cardboard boxes, which made headlines in local newspapers.

“I have many adoring fans. They believe in my talent and it motivates me,” he said.

He further encouraged young people to use the talents given to them by God.

“Never doubt yourself. Everything is possible in life, but you must work hard,” he said.

He aspires to have a place where he can create his doll houses so that he can employ other people who love creating art.

He, however, lacks material to create his doll houses.

“One needs resources and material to build these houses.

“I appeal to a good Samaritan who can sponsor me with material,” he said.

He sells his doll houses at R150 each. Those interested in buying them or sponsoring him can contact him on Facebook, Artist Dzulani Trevor Sidogi.
