Matome focuses on nurturing the youth

Provincial Spokesperson of the ANCYL, Matome Moremi speaks about growth in Limpopo.

POLOKWANE – Matome Moremi, from Ivy Park, says that the youth need to be nurtured in terms of their talents as they are the future leaders of the country.

“I started leading at high school where I was part of the Students Representative Council (SRC) throughout my tertiary years and I am now the spokesperson for the ANCYL in the province. My roles include making sure the youth is given as much support and assistance as possible to ensure they grow and become better people and at a later stage be the leaders of the country. We focus on quality education that is free, as well as funding in every way that we can in order for the youth to flourish and succeed in their future endeavours,” said Moremi.

He also spoke about issues that affect the youth, such as the availability of free sanitary towels for young women, more especially those that reside in the rural areas under harsh, under-developed communities.

He also touched on the issue of unemployment among the youth, especially those who have made an effort to go to school to further their studies.

He said the ANC is currently working on scrapping the job employment criteria of experience and also working on providing even those young people who attended FET Colleges the opportunity to pursue employment in their respective fields of study.

“The youth in the province have every right to complain about not being afforded an opportunity to become better people by doing what they love and are good at. One example is a poetry slam-event I attended recently which was organised by the youth. To be honest at first I didn’t think the event would take place. When Tshegofatjo approached me with the idea I was a bit sceptical but I was impressed by the talent that I witnessed there. The event was well-organised and very educative and uplifting. The attendees were the youth who awarded one another an opportunity to showcase their individual talents, which is what the ANCYL is all about and aims to do,” he explained.

He says the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture needs to invest more into the talents of young people of the province, so that the youth can also be afforded an equal opportunity to succeed in their dreams and pursuance of talent.
