Man (32) sentenced to life for murder of Mokopane learner

Katlego Lesenya (9) was a Gr 4 learner at Mokopane Primary School.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane High Court recently sentenced a 32-year-old traditional healer from the Mashahleng area to life in imprisonment for the murder of Katlego Lesenya (9).

Katlego was a Gr 4 learner at Mokopane Primary School.

Thaulo Jimmy Mkhabela, an ex-boyfriend of the deceased’s mother,  was arrested for kidnapping shortly after Katlego’s disappearance on 21 May 2016. It was alleged the deceased’s mother and the accused had ended their relationship the day before he was reported missing.

A search was initiated but the boy’s body was only found after Mkhabela revealed he had thrown the body from a bridge into a shallow river on the Marken road between Mahwelereng and Lephalale in the Tinmyne policing area.

It was determined Katlego had been murdered at the beginning Child Protection Week 2016.
