The duo met in Grade 8 and soon became close friends. “We both attend Curro Northern Academy and live in Penina Park. We go to the same church and have the same taste in music and in life in general which might play a part in why our friendship bond is so strong. I play guitar while Mike sings, and we hope to grow as musicians and one day perform for big audiences with well-known artists or become well-known artists in our own right,” Lunga said.

The two friends told BONUS they enjoy pop music, gospel, soul, RnB and hip hop and often perform at weddings, parties and churches finding inspiration from artists such as John Meyer and Ed Sheeran.

Although the two 18-year-olds say they struggle to write their own music, they plan to change it soon. They add they will continue to perform together as not only is it something they love, but they see it having a positive impact in not only their lives but the lives of the community as well.

They encourage the youth to find their passion and follow it no matter what others might say or think. “It is important as the youth to get involved in activities which build us to become better people in the future as well as presently, unlike going to clubs and engaging in unhealthy activities. We chose music as it’s fun and uplifting plus it also helps to boost our self esteem and confidence as we perform in front of people even though it can be daunting sometimes not knowing whether the audience will enjoy our performance or not. Still we are doing what we love which is awesome,” said Mike.
