Police officers were deployed to Polokwane 10111 Call Centre to act as call centre operators after workers at the centre joined their co-workers countrywide in embarking on a national strike over a wage deadlock yesterday (Wednesday).
South African Policing Union (Sapu) acting Provincial Secretary, Thabo Mgudi explained that this was a national protected strike. “Cases are reported through the call centre every minute and residents won’t be able to get police assistance during the strike. We will embark on a bigger strike if relevant parties don’t step to the plate and give workers what they want,” explained Mgudi.
Police Spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that police officers were deployed to the centre on the outskirts of the city to help during the strike period.
