Local Miss Humanity heads for international stage
Charmaine Nkosi has her eyes set on the Miss Humanity International crown
POLOKWANE – The 20-year-old beauty from Phalaborwa wants to dominate the stage at the competition taking place in Barbados next month.
She is the current Miss Humanity International South Africa and the second title holder to compete in the international stage of the competition.
Charmaine started doing pageants and modelling last year and was overjoyed when she won a national title in her first year of competing. “My mom was a beauty queen and people always told me to consider modelling, but growing up I wanted to be a lawyer or scientist.”
She said the Miss Humanity pageant was perfect for her because it allows her to help the less fortunate. The title has given her a platform to work with charities, to travel, market and create a name for herself.
“It has boosted my confidence tremendously, I’m a living testimony that anything is possible,” Charmaine said.
Carrying such a prestigious title is not without challenges. She was in matric when she started modelling and had to juggle her studies and extramural interests, all while needing strict discipline as she was home schooled. Aside from this juggling act, she also had to find the time to establish herself as a philanthropist through various community projects.
Charmaine said she is grateful for the support she has received during her reign and asks for continued support as she takes on the international competition. She will depart for Barbados, South America on 18 August and will return to South Africa on 25 August.
