Two women remanded in custody for fraud

The women were arrested on 10 July inside an Absa bank in Burgersfort

LIMPOPO- The two women, aged 54 and 40-years-old respectively, appeared in the Burgersfort Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 11 July 2017, on charges of fraud.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke says the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Unit together with Crime Intelligence conducted an operation on Monday, 10 July, following a tipoff about two women who planned to defraud Absa bank by providing fraudulent documents to withdraw money from the client’s account.

“The suspects were arrested inside the bank whilst trying to deceive the consultant with their fraudulent documents. One identity document believed to belong to a genuine client of the bank was seized,” Maluleke said.

Both suspects will appear before the Burgersfort Magistrates Court on 18 July 2017, for formal bail application.
