Launch of Wheelchair Wednesday campaign in Polokwane

2017 marks the fifth year that APD Limpopo will be driving the campaign in the province.

POLOKWANE – It is said you cannot judge someone until you have walked a mile in his or her shoes. This could also translate to the fact that you cannot know the difficulties encountered by a person with a disability until you have spent time in his wheelchair. Local sponsors gathered at the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) in Polokwane.

The topic on everyone’s lips was wheelchair-awareness and the launch of the forthcoming Wheelchair Wednesday campaign aimed at helping people understand the problems encountered by those in wheelchairs.

Polokwane businesses have sponsored a total of 73 wheelchairs in the last four years. Sponsors include small businesses, corporations, national companies and individuals.

2017 marks the fifth year that APD Limpopo will be driving the campaign in the province.

“We need a total of 27 sponsored wheelchairs to reach the milestone of 100,” Margaret Malatji, the fundraising officer of APD told Review.

The beneficiaries of these wheelchairs all come from Limpopo and are mostly children and young people.

Sponsors will have the opportunity to personally hand over the wheelchairs, receive a section 18A Tax receipt, media/social coverage and the opportunity to take part in the 2017 Wheelchair Wednesday awareness challenge during July this year.
