Multi-vehicle collision outside Mokopane claims five lives

Five people died and several were injured after a multi-vehicle collision along the N11 late yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

LIMPOPO – The accident happened about 20kms from Mokopane near the Mogalakwena Mine.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Department of Transport, Joshua Kwapa, it is alleged a bakkie collided head-on with a sedan which then collided with a third vehicle, also a sedan.

“Five people were killed and five other people sustained injuries, one seriously injured.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe added that the four people traveling in the sedan were killed on impact and a fifth was certified dead on arrival at the hospital in Mokopane. “The driver of the bakkie sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. No injuries were reported in the third vehicle.”

Four of the deceased were members from the same family.

The deceased were identified as: William Baloyi (47) from Ga-Molekane village, Phinias Masenya (30) from Ga-Molekane village, Hezekiel Baloyi (53) from Ga-Molekane village, Raymond Mamabolo (40) from Armoede village and Steven Ramotshela (43).

The cause of this accident is unknown but Police investigations are still unfolding.
