POLOKWANE – To pay it forward means to do something for someone without expecting something in return. The person receiving the gift should then pay it forward by doing something good to someone else, again without expecting something in return.
The ‘Pay It Forward’ Initiative is the organisation supported by Mrs Polokwane finalist 2018, Tebogo Modiba, who she will support in her journey as finalist.
Tebogo, the wife of Seoposengwe and mother of two boys, works at the National Institute for Communicable Disease where she is a surveillance and research officer.
“I entered Mrs Polokwane because I want to give back to the community. I’ve been doing this for most of my life and I feel I can use this platform of Mrs Polokwane to give better exposure to the organisation.”
She explained that the Pay It Forward Initiative began in 2012 to raise money for schools in the Mankweng community. They then buy shoes and school uniforms for the children and adopt a family for Christmas, treating them to gifts and good food over the holiday.
In her free time, Tebogo spends time with her family and she loves to travel.
“When I wanted to enter, my husband told me to go ahead as he knew this is what I love. He is very supportive of my dreams.”
She explains that so far, she has been learning a lot from Mrs Polokwane 2017, Irene Schempers, on what to do and how to do it.
“My advice to other women who would like to enter Mrs Polokwane is to do it from the inside and not to just get a title. You need to love people and have a passion for this. You need to have a heart to give without expecting back”
