Limpopo Leak Detection introduce ZoneScan Alpha System technology in SA

Limpopo Leak Detection is a national leader in intelligent water loss technologies and leak detection technology.

MOKOPANE – This company, managed by Rian van Heerden, has managed the quantum leap to be the provider of a fully automatic water loss alarm turnkey solution, the ZoneScan Alpha System, originating from Germany.

Limpopo Leak Detection are the first to introduce this new technology in Limpopo with advanced technical features.

“For the last five years we have put a lot of effort into realising our vision of a completely automatic, unmanned and permanent network monitoring system which allows the user to identify and pinpoint leaks – even small and difficult ones – anywhere in the water network,” says van Heerden.

How does the system work:

The ZoneScan Alpha System is the most advanced leak detection system ever made. It not only records and detects the presence of nearby water leaks, but also performs leak noise correlation to automatically pinpoint water leaks while you sleep.

The Zonescan Alpha System.

Leak Noise Correlators are powerful electronic devices to locate leaks on pressured pipes, where the rough location of the leak is unknown and the distances relatively high. Two (or more) sensors are placed in contact with the pipe on both sides of the suspected leak. Those sensors record and transmit the sound by radio to the processing unit. Mathematical algorithms are used to determine the exact location of certain noise profiles (such as a hissing leak sound) on the pipe, by correlating the noises that reach both sensors and measuring the difference it takes to travel on the pipe from the leak location to each sensor.

The AquaScan correlator range is characterised by world-leading sensors, a compact and attractive design, robustness on the field and sophisticated filtering capabilities.

Leak noise loggers are usually programmed to turn on during off-peak periods (usually about 01:00 to 02:00) and log any noises generated on the network. Comparing data from several loggers placed around a network will identify areas requiring further investigation.

From the control room, the water loss manager can review, in real-time, his entire distribution network, and analyse problematic network districts and pinpoint existing and new leaks in seconds.

Through ZoneScan NET user interface and measurement database, the operator can use invaluable current and historic network data to track the state of his pipe network and perform benchmarking between different sectors, thus helping to anticipate negative network events such as pipe breakages. The system allows the smart utility to take informed asset management decisions, such as optimal repair work and pipe replacement times.

“Some of our forms of resources are contracting ourselves to various municipalities, plumbing companies, building contractors and body corporates. Our prices are extremely competitive,” Van Heerden added.
