‘Community must stand together, we can not save our municipality if we are divided’

Residents who fall under the Mogalakwena Municipality are invited to attend the community meeting in July

MOKOPANE – The planned shutdown of Mogalakwena on 27 and 28 June was suspended after an urgent meeting between the Mogalakwena Concerned and Affected Communities (MCAC) and Marcelle Maritz, Limpopo Leader of the Freedom Front Plus.

Maritz was invited by MCAC to the meeting and they agreed the shutdown of the town was not well coordinated and not the way forward.

During the meeting everyone agreed that it is time for the community to take hands and stand together to bring a change in the Mogalakwena Municipality.

It was decided that a community meeting will be held and political parties, community forums, business owners, land owners, residents who fall under the Mogalakwena Municipality are welcome to attend the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to address the following problems in the municipality: fraud, corruption, status of the municipality, programme of action and a way forward.

According to Motlatso Selomo, Chairperson of MCAC, Mogalakwena Municipality is on the verge of collapse and bankruptcy. Selomo said: “We are an organisation that stand for peace and unity. We do not resort to violence, we decided to reach a hand out to everyone and all political parties”.

Marcelle Maritz said: “The time has come for all of us to stand together, we can not save our municipality if we are divided”.
