Plannned water shutdown along Devenish Street and CBD
Residents in the affected areas are urged to make alternative arrangements
POLOKWANE – Some residents are currently experiencing low water pressure and a shortage of water in some part of the city.
This is ahead of the shut off scheduled for this afternoon.
Residents are urged to make alternative arrangements and those that are not affected are urged to continue using water sparingly.
POLOKWANE – Residents are hereby notified of planned water shut-down along Devenish Street pipeline on Thursday afternoon.
According to Matshidiso Mothapo, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality, this is to allow municipal technicians to reconnect the new line as part of the project to replace the asbestos pipes.
“Water supply to these areas will be shut off on Thursday from 17:00 and is expected to last for approximately 20 hours or less.”
He explains that the water is currently being supplied through a temporary by-pass line which is smaller in diameter which has resulted in reduced flow and pressure. “The re-connection to the new bigger line will provide a permanent normal supply to all areas affected.”
The shut-down will affect parts of the CBD, Nirvana, Rainbow Park, Ivy Dale and Ivy Park and the Extensions area, he adds.
Should the re-connection experience challenges and not meet the set deadlines, the municipality will deploy water tankers to provide temporary relief to the affected areas.
The municipality apologies in advance for the for any inconveniences caused during this period. Residents that are not affected are urged to continue using water sparingly.
