Investigations ongoing after man’s body found

The community of Mashau found the body of a young man on Saturday morning near Vhafamadi High School.

LIMPOPO – The man was identified as Tendani Sihongo (25) of Ha-Mashau Section B near Elim.

He was discovered by a passerby who was walking along the street.

His cause of death has not yet been determined.

This raised more questions than answers as no one could explain exactly what had happened.

The man had gaping wounds to his head, suggesting that he might have been hit with sharp objects before he died.

The mother of the deceased, Tshimagadzo Sihongo, said she was told by a passerby that a man was found lying dead in the street, but she was not sure if it was her son.

Sihongo said she rushed out of her home and headed to the scene, and that’s when she saw her son’s lifeless body lying there.

“I found a large group of people gathered around the body. I came closer and looked down only to see my son.

“If the people who did this wanted money, they should have taken it from him and left him alone. It’s painful as my son wasn’t ill. Those responsible for my son’s death will pay for it one of these days; God will answer me,” she bemoaned.

She said the incident has left the family traumatised.

“We were stunned by the untimely death of my son.

“The police also came and took him away to perform a post mortem which will determine the cause of his death.

“There was only a small area of blood on the ground from where he was lifted,” Sihongo said, adding that the family would love to see the law taking its course.

“We need answers because we do not know what happened to him. We are not pointing fingers at anybody for now but we will wait for the law to take its course,” she added.

“The one guilty of this heinous crime has to pay for what they did. They must rot in jail where they belong,” she emphasised.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Ngoatshe Ngoepe, confirmed the incident and asked anyone with information to come forward and report to their nearest police station.

“We have opened an inquest docket and are awaiting the results of the postmortem.

Investigations are ongoing,” he said.
