Ex-principal granted bail in rape case

The suspect handed himself over to the police after he learned that he was wanted.

LIMPOPO – Henry Sephaku (59) who was arrested on a charge of rape appeared before the Lenyenye Magistrate Court earlier today (Thursday) and was granted R5 000 bail.

He is set to reappear before the court on 23 August, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

LIMPOPO – The police in Maake, outside Tzaneen, arrested the man at Lorraine village in the Sekororo area on 14 June.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspect, who is the ex-principal of a Private School in Nkowa Nkowa outside Tzaneen, called the 15-year-old girl out of the school premises saying that he wanted to give her a message and took her to his home in Loraine village where on arrival, he raped her.

“The victim opened a case and investigations continue,” he said.

The suspect briefly appeared before the Lenyenye Magistrate Court on Monday, 19 June and will appear again today, 20 June, for a formal bail application.

“The suspect is still in custody,” Ngoepe concluded.
