14-year-old appears in court for attempted murder

The 14-year-old girl threw her baby (6-months-old) into a pit toilet over the weekend

LIMPOPO – The 14-year-old girl detained by the police for throwing her baby (6 months) into a pit toilet was denied bail by the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).

The minor appeared on  the charge of attempted murder and is set to reappear before the same court on 6 July 2017, Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Police investigation continue.


LIMPOPO – Lim SAPS have condemned the involvement of minor children in criminal activities.

Police spokesperson, LT Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspect threw her six-month-old baby boy into a pit toilet.

“A passerby noticed what the minor was doing and called the police,” Ngoepe says.

Police reacted swiftly and the child was safely removed from the toilet, still alive, and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate Court on Monday, 19 June, on a charge of attempted murder.

Police investigations continue.

Ngoepe concluded by advising parents to prioritise child safety including close supervision of one’s child as part of a positive upbringing.

“Parental education is always of vital importance, especially for young girls in order for them to refrain from sexual relationships to prevent teenage pregnancies.”
