Lantern donation lights up their world

The Potgietersrus Rotary Club are doing wonders to students in the Waterberg area through the Solar Lamp project and donated 210 solar lanterns to various schools on Tuesday.

MOKOPANE – Blondie McGlashan, President of the Potgietersrus Rotary Club, explained to the 19 schools who participated in the meeting at the Park Hotel, that these solar lanterns must only be given to the underprivileged learners in Gr 11 and 12 at their schools who really make an effort with their schoolwork.

“It is such a privilege to be able to help learners who struggle. To see their faces when they receive the lanterns is priceless,” said McGlashan.

The solar lantern lasts for seven hours non-stop if charged correctly through the sun and can help the learners a lot, especially those without electricity at their houses.

Ebenezer Secondary School, Ramogabudi Secondary School, Gobela Secondary School, Gojela Secondary School, Masodi Secondary School, Mmolawa Secondary School, Mpinwabirwa Secondary School, DG Tsebe Secondary School, Madikwe Secondary School, Kgakgathu Secondary School, Moyaneng Secondary School, Motjere Secondary School, Motjere Secondary School, Mmantutule Secondary School, Makapane Secondary School, EDL Rampola Secondary School, Sterkrivier Secondary School, Weenen Secondary School, Langalibalile Secondary School and MASE School received laterns.

The schools thanks the Potgietersrus Rotary Club for their help and concerns about the community.

According to McGlashan, the Rotary Club will get back to these schools again when they have more lanterns and also address the other schools among the 1 000 requests they received.

She also asks for any school who knows about learners who need blankets to give her a call at 082 448 9105.
