Elderly man dies, woman injured after attack on Haenertsburg farm

Two suspects entered their home at around 23:00 last night, says the police

CORRECTION: The attack happened on a farm along the Cheerio road not on Cheerio Farm, as previously reported.

 

LIMPOPO – A 67-year-old man died, and a woman was left injured after a robbery on a farm along the Cheerio road outside Haenertsburg yesterday evening (Wednesday).

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged the deceased and a female victim were attacked after a two unknown suspects entered their house at around 23:00 yesterday.

According to the Spokesperson of ER, Russel Meiring, the paramedics were alerted and arrived at the residence to find the male victim in the kitchen. “He had sustained critical injuries which included a gunshot wound to the leg and several wounds and fractures. The female victim was found in the bedroom with minor injuries,” said Meiring.

He further added that ER24 advanced life support paramedics immediately treated the patients and provided the man with several advanced life support interventions, in an effort to stabilise his vital signs. Once stabilised, both patients were transported to Mediclinic Tzaneen.

“The male victim passed away later in the hospital.”

Firearms were also taken during the attack, added Ngoepe.

The Heanertsburg Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and ask anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact D/Warrant Officer Andrew Ngamuni at 0824143031 or 015 276 6140,  the nearest police station or to call either the 24-hour crime stop number 0860010111 or use the crime line SMS 32211.
