Limpopo man arrested for setting alight two properties

It is alleged he threatened the owner of the property before setting it alight

LIMPOPO – The police in Namakgale outside Phalaborwa have arrested a 33-year-old man on two counts of arson in Mashishimale Village.

It is alleged the suspect contacted a woman, believed to be a girl friend, and threatened to set fire to her home.

The suspect reportedly phoned the victim and threatened to burn her house down. She was away from home at the time but when she returned, she found her three-roomed house on fire, Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“The suspect allegedly proceeded to the woman’s parental home where he set their home alight. Police acted swiftly and the suspect was arrested shortly after starting the second fire.”

The fires caused damage of an estimated R10 000, he added.

The suspect will appear before the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court today (Friday), on two counts of arson.

The motive for the attacks are unknown. Police investigations continue.

Police advised residents who have or are experiencing any form of domestic issues to consult the relevant authorities for intervention instead of resorting to acts of violence.
