LIMPOPO – As part of the police’s efforts to confront the scourge of crimes directed at women and children in the province, the suspect was nabbed soon after the discovery of the body of the girl.
Her body, which sustained multiple injuries, was discovered on Tafelkop Mountain by a passer-by who immediately alerted the police, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
“The police reacted swiftly and followed up information that led to the arrest of the boy soon after preliminary investigations connected him to the incident.” The police didn’t hesitate to apprehend him, he added.
Both the suspect and the deceased, identified as Dimakatso Tlaka, were learners at Buleu High School in Motetema.
The motive for the murder is not clear at this stage, however, police are investigating allegations that the suspect was forcing the deceased to undergo an abortion shortly before her death.
The murder accused will appear before the Motetema Magistarte’s Court today (Wednesday)
The Provincial Commissioner LT. General Nneke Ledwaba has noted this incident with shock and disbelief, especially in light of the brutality that characterised the murder and the age of both the victim and the suspect.
Residents in the area are requested to remain calm and give the police room to investigate the matter fully, says General Ledawaba.
