Zoll automated external defibrillator (AED) set to help save lives

The product was launched at Netcare Pholoso Hospital recently

POLOKWANE – A heart attack can occur any time and without the necessary help, could be fatal.

Roughly half of those suffering cardiac arrest, will require high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Tom Watson, Advanced Life Suport (ALS) emergency services worker from Executive Medical Services, visited Polokwane recently where he launched the Zoll automated external defibrillator (AED).

This event took place at the Pholoso Netcare Hospital and medics from across the city attended the seminar.

“The best way to increase the chance of saving sudden cardiac arrest victims is to remember and to follow every link in the chain of survival, namely early access, early CPR, early defibrillation and early advanced care. By the time the ambulance arrives at the scene it will be too late,” says Watson.

“LifeSaver 25 550 is about changing your attitude as to everybody is a life saver. The Zoll AED helps a person who is doing CPR. With the Zoll AED you have feedback while you are doing CPR. It tells you to push harder or faster and help you until a medical response arrive are on the scene,” explains Watson.

“An AED should not just deliver a shock, it should also help the rescuer provide high-quality CPR. It is a must have in every office and school. With this anybody can become a lifesaver.”
