Mooketsi Kgwadi, recently received the Mediclinic Limpopo Nursing Excellence Award.

LIMPOPO – Mooketsi has been with Mediclinic Limpopo for nine years and received this special recognition on 12 May, International Nurse’s Day.

This mother of two works in the obstetrics unit at Mediclinic and was nominated for the award by her peers for her dedication to her work and for putting patients’ needs first.

“I had no idea I was nominated for this award and it came as a pleasant surprise to know my efforts are recognised,” said a delighted Mooketsi.

She is described as a team player by her colleagues and managers who said her ability to be flexible and work well under pressure are what make her stand out in the profession. Her special care, patience and gentleness towards patients just add to her overall package.

Her advice to others who want to join the nursing profession is to be a compassionate and selfless person.

“Being compassionate is key. Along with that, have great insight of the nursing profession, always take responsibility for your actions, be vigilant at all times, and always be ready to take action when needed,” she advised.

Mooketsi said winning the award motivates her to work even harder to ensure good quality healthcare services.

“I plan to enroll for a bridging course to gain an even better understanding of the nursing profession and to enable me to be the best nurse I can be,” she added.

Mediclinic South Africa Nursing Executive, Dr Estelle Coustas, said these awards serve to thank nurses for what they do for their patients and Mediclinic. “I believe taking time to thank as well as recognise each nurse’s selfless contribution to ensure quality healthcare services and safe as well as comfortable patients is very important,” she said.
