The Polokwane High Court handed down heavy sentences to the two accused, yesterday.

POLOKWANE -The two men were accused of terrorising students of University of Limpopo in 2015.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the sterling work of members from a crime intelligence led operation and subsequent investigations led to the successful prosecution, conviction and sentencing of these criminals.

Samuel Ramollo (29) was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment without the option of fine and Sello Letsoalo (24) to 33 years imprisonment, also without the option of fine.

The duo were convicted on charges of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

This is after the court heard that the two accused attacked two victims and raped one at their rooms they rented outside the campus during February 2015. They broke the window and pointed a firearm at the two victims and demanded they open the door. They then raped one of the victims and robbed them of cellphones.

“Follow-ups by our operatives, that also included forensic investigation, led to the arrest of the two,” Ngoepe added.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, commended all members who were involved in cracking these cases and said the sentences that were meted against the accused, should send a clear message to those that are still anticipating commuting similar crimes that the police will be relentless in pursuing them.

The community of Mankweng and the students in particular will now feel safer after these sentences.
