Limpopo Dept of Education’s Assistant Director arrested for corruption

The suspect asked for a bribe in order for a student’s bursary to be approved.

POLOKWANE – Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke says the suspect (58) was arrested in Polokwane on Tuesday, 16 May 2017.

The suspect, who is responsible for University of Venda bursaries, allegedly demanded R4 400 from a parent in order to approve a bursary.

“The matter was reported to the Hawks and an operation was conducted. He was arrested immediately after receiving the bribe,” says Maluleke.

The suspect appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday (17 May) and he was granted R1 000 bail and his was case postponed to 13 June 2017, for further investigation.

Maluleke encourages those who paid a bribe to the suspect in order to get their bursaries approved, to contact Lt Col Seabi at 071 351 7272 or report at the nearest police station.
