I ‘lave’nder you mom

Charne Coetzer, a preschool teacher at Magic’s Castle preschool in Flora Park, helped her class make lavender bath salt to give to their moms on Mother’s Day and she shared the simple steps with Review.

POLOKWANE –  How do you say ‘thank you’ to the woman who raised you? For some, it’s as easy as giving a gift or a card to their mom on Mother’s Day, while others come up with more adventurous ideas.

In South Africa, we celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of the month of May.

Charne Coetzer, a preschool teacher at Magic’s Castle preschool in Flora Park, helped her class make lavender bath salt to give to their moms on Mother’s Day and she shared the simple steps with Review.

“Making your own scented bath salts is easy and rewarding! Bath salts are a wonderful way to combine the therapeutic benefits of our all-natural bath salt with the relaxing, soothing effects of aromatherapy. Creating your own unique bath salt recipe can be as simple as adding essential oils to bath salts, but adding dried herbs, colorants, or other natural ingredients make the possibilities endless. These can be a pleasant Mother’s Day present for your mother or the woman in your life,” Coetzer explains.

You will need:

  • Natural Bath salt
  • 15-30 drops of essential oil (Lavender scented)

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, add a few drops of essentials oil to the bath salt and mix well. Store mixture in a glass jar.

Decorate your jar with paint or tie a pretty bow around it to give it a polished look.

To use, pour half a cup of the bath salt mixture into bath water and enjoy a soothing, luxurious bath.
