Assault case withdrawal surprises victim

A 44-Year-old ex-cashier at Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality's (EMLM) vehicle licensing department has accused the Motetema police of disservice.

LIMPOPO – Toswi Samuel Malau claims police have not been adequately informing him about a case of assault he opened against a former municipal manager.

Malau said for the past five years he had not heard anything from the police with regard to his case despite numerous attempts.

According to Malau, he was assaulted with a hammer and a steel bar at his house in Tafelkop when he went there with his assailant’s nephew after a church service in 2012.

“The man accused me of having an affair with his wife and assaulted me. I suffered serve injuries to my legs and hands and was admitted at the Groblersdal Hospital for several days.

“He also took my clothes and two cell phones during the assault,” said Malau.

Malau said he was worried with the manner which police handled his case.

“I opened a case of assault at Motetema Police Station and he was arrested but released on bail the following day. To date I am still in the dark on what the developments are on the case.

“He is still on the streets. The man deserves to be in jail for what he did to me,” explained Malau.

He believes the man used his connections within the local municipality to get him fired as a cashier in the vehicle licensing division following the assault case. “My family is suffering since I lost my job and I want to know what happened to the case I opened.”

Motetema Police confirmed a case of assault was opened.

According to Motetema Police, the case was thrown out of court on 11 November 2016 due to a lack of evidence.

This came as a surprise to Malau, who said he had never been called to court since he opened the case.

Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said they have tasked the Management Intervention Team to investigate the matter.
