LIMPOPO – The crimes are said to have occurred at Spekboom River outside Burgersfort.
It is alleged that a man was kidnapped from Burgersfort Extension 10 on Sunday, 7 May by a group of community members who accused him of being involved in the hijacking of a VW Polo in the area last week, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
“The group alleged that when they questioned the man, he ran from them and jumped into the Spekboom River where he drowned.”
A joint search by the Thohoyandou Search and Rescue team started early yesterday (Monday) morning. The victim’s body was found floating in the river later the afternoon, he added.
“There were multiple injuries on his body and his legs were tied together with ropes and wires,” he confirmed.

The deceased was identified as Tshepo Papatsong Matome (29) from Makubu village near Burgersfort.
The suspects will appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate Court soon.
Police investigations are ongoing.
