Hippo involved in Haenertsburg collision euthanised

The hippopotamus involved in the accident along the R71 road just outside Heanertsburg, on Friday 5 May, was located by local fisherman yesterday (Sunday).

LIMPOPO – According to a post on Haenertsburg, Magoebaskloof ‘The Mountain’ Company facebook page the hippo sustained extensive injuries during the incident and rangers from LEDET were forced to shoot the animal.

“The driver of the vehicle sustained slight injuries during the accident, however the vehicle was ‘written off’,” read the post.

This comes after a hippopotamus was killed on impact after it was hit by a Quantum taxi along the R510 Lephalale and Stockport road on 28 April.

No injuries were reported, however the vehicle sustained minor damage.
