Mokopane Destiny Academy steps into the future

MOKOPANE – A new era has dawned in education in Limpopo when learners of Mokopane Destiny Academy (MDA) moved into ‘The Cube’, a state-of-the-art school building which encompasses the latest international design trends in educational facilities.

On Tuesday, the learners in both primary and high school entered the classrooms for the first time even though the official opening will be held on 19 May. The new building is situated at the Resource, Education and Training (RET) Centre on the corner of Geyser and Fourie Street. While security and access control ensures a safe environment, the school will now be able to expand threefold. It was designed to obtain the vision of ‘into the future’.

The Gr 1 class is designed as a colourful wonderland where these learners can use their imaginations to build their future and have clear thoughts when learning.

“We are creating an environment where we can prepare our learners to lead productive lives,” says MDA Principal, Fred van der Merwe.

“Our aim is to invest in the future of our learners to enable them to make a difference in society from an early age.”

The school was founded in 2006 by Pastors Thomas and Minda Marshall from Destiny Alive Ministries.

“To have our own school here at the RET Centre is a dream years in the making,” says Thomas, adding that the school is part of a vision to continue to make a difference in the lives of Mokopane’s youth.

“This is only phase one, long-term plans are underway to expand further and to continue investing in the education of this town,” he says, adding that we, as a community, have a responsibility to equip our children to live life and not just to make a living.

MDA has 10 qualified teachers as well as several teacher assistants and offers education for Gr 1 to 12 along with additional programmes to improve reading (Lab-on-Line) and mathematics (Mathletics). The new building will provide learners with a media centre and science lab.

The learners in the intermediate classroom listen attentively to their teachers.

The school also offers sports including soccer, gymnastics, and MiniChess to ensure well-rounded learners. MDA has also introduced the Cambridge international senior qualification, making it the only private school in the Mokopane-area to offer this sought-after curriculum.

“As a school which follows Christian values, we will continue to work hand-in-hand with parents to enable children to make a difference in their community,” says Van der Merwe.

“Cambridge qualifications have a proven reputation for being an excellent preparation for university, employment, and life beyond.”
