CDM plans to fix vacancy issues

All positions for municipal managers in CDM, except for Molemole, are vacant.

POLOKWANE- The vacancies in the senior management echelon in Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) and its local municipalities are seen as a challenge and the filling of these vacancies will be prioritised in the new municipal financial year.

The new financial year commences on 1 July.

CDM is conducting a public participation process to get input for its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget said CDM Mayor, John Mpe when he addressed the business and academic sectors last Wednesday evening in Polokwane.

According to Mpe, the vacancy of the municipal manager in Polokwane has been filled, with the new manager to start later this week. Other than that, all positions for municipal managers in CDM, except for Molemole, are vacant.

The positions of chief financial officers of Capricorn and Polokwane municipalities are vacant, as are the community services managers of Polokwane and Molemole, the planning and economic development managers in Polokwane, Molemole and Blouberg, the corporate services managers in Capricorn, Polokwane, and Lepelle-Nkumpi, and the manager of strategic executive management services in CDM.

A complete job evaluation process is planned and all funded vacancies are to be advertised and a recruitment process plan to be developed by the CDM.

Mpe also said more attention will be given to skills development, with intensive training of officials and councillors, more bursary funding made available, the development of a retention strategy, and collaboration with institutions of higher learning for research and training in the pipeline.
