Shaping young minds with a smile

A child's brain can soak up knowledge like a sponge and with her love for children and teaching, Amanda Williams (22) is ready to help mould and develop these young minds.

POLOKWANE – Previously a teacher at the Christian Achievers Academy (now Northview Christian Academy), Amanda seized the opportunity with both hands to teach older children and applied to Bet-Shalom Christian School when they required a Gr 4 teacher.

“I began teaching at Bet-Shalom on 18 April, and although it has only been a week, I already feel like a part of the family and as if this is where I belong,” she said.

Amanda Williams and her learners are eager to learn together.

With a smile she said it feels as if she has known the children forever, and she already knows all her learners’ names and surnames.

“It was slightly challenging the first few days as the learners were still in a holiday mood, but they soon settled and got back into the schoolwork-spirit. My fiancé still teaches at Northview Christian Academy, and although it will be an adjustment for us, we will have more stories to share at home after work.”

“The best advice I can give to learners anywhere is to read as much as possible. Readers are our future leaders and reading is something simple you can do which will give you a boost when it comes to advancing in your education,” she added.
