The duo only started dancing together about three months ago and have earned themselves a spot in the beginners category in the upcoming dance competition in Sandton

POLOKWANE – Linduyise Sibusiso Sbu Mahaye (48) and the lovely 42-year-old Yasmin Jardine, are a new dance couple that are possibly dancing their way to stardom. The duo only started dancing together about three months ago and have impressed their dance coach, Jack Mawasha, owner of Jama Dance School, to the extent that they have earned themselves a spot in the beginners category in the upcoming dance competition in Sandton on 5 May.

Age is not a barrier and the couple want to prove to the world that being a mom or a dad does not stop you from doing what you love, or achieving what you set out to achieve.

Sbu is a government official and works at the Limpopo Provincial Treasury. Despite his job, Sbu is following his dreams as a dancer.

“Dancing is like a gym that keeps people busy. It keeps the body flexible and enables you to interact with other people. It helps individuals to behave by not getting involved with mischievous things”

Besides dancing, Yasmin is the franchise owner of a beauty salon and is also a director at a private school.

“This is going to be a bit of a challenge and an experience for us because we will compete together for the first time, and it will assist us to improve as a couple,” she said.

Though Yasmin said they are not nervous for the championships; she said the section encourages them to work hard and put more effort into what they are doing, so that they can transfer their knowledge to the younger generation.

“We have prepared, and we are still preparing. The way to successful teamwork is through commitment and understanding each other, and putting in more hours in order to achieve our goals,” Sbu added. The couple train three to four times a week, and at times, even over weekends.

They cannot wait to get on the dance floor as they have put a lot of hard work in to reach this moment.

They will travel with the rest of the dance team as their support system.

“After competing, the team will advise us on where we need improvement or alterations for our next competition,” Yasmin said.

They believe trust, hard work, communication and understanding each other will make them grow as a dance couple.

“I have finally discovered that dancing is my passion. I believe in life, it’s rather late than never. I love the discipline and the confidence it gives me to be my true self”

“I believe they will make me and the school proud because they catch on really well and fast. I have given them a lot of training with more to come, and the ball is now in their court as to how they portray us,” Jack said.

“Our team mates, Adelaide Hlungwani and Thabo Nojaja, who will also be our support system at the championships, are eager to sacrifice their time and assist where they can.

“Jack knows what he’s doing and there are many dancers out there who are his products and therefore we are honoured, confident and grateful that we have him as our coach,” they added.

Sbu and Yasmin both believe that since they still need to know each other better as dance partners, respecting each other is very important in a team. They are both very focused and hardworking towards a goal they both want to achieve, and that is what makes any relationship stronger.
