Mogalakwena Attorney’s Association launched, committee elected

The Mogalakwena Attorneys' Association was launched on 20 April at the Honey Ball Bakery and Guesthouse.

MOKOPANE – The launch was attended by local attorneys, officials of the local courts and the press. The Acting Chief Magistrate of the Mokopane Magistrates Court, Annelies Swanepoel, addressed the meeting and raised some aspects concerning procedures to be addressed for better functioning.

The following committee were elected: Emile Honiball (Chairperson), Thabisa Somo (Deputy Chairperson), Hantie Botha (Secretary), Takalani Mboyi (Treasurer), Schalk Pienaar, Maribe Mamabolo and Pieter de Beer (Additional Members).

Among others the attorneys’ association aims to represent its members locally, maintain, promote and uphold the reputation of the profession, maintain and promote quality of legal services and provide guidance and information on new developments in law.

Honiball, mentioned that the association intended to achieve the goals by facilitating the flow of information between attorneys, government departments such as the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the public whom attorneys serve.

Some of the latest developments in the law, is the establishment of the High Court in Polokwane as well as the new Deeds Office. The High Court has exclusive jurisdiction over all matters in its area and the transfer of ownership of properties situated in Limpopo shall from 1 April be done in the Polokwane Deeds Office.

The flow of information between attorneys and officials of the local Magistrates Court is equally important to ensure smooth functioning of legal processes.

All practicing and candidate attorneys in the Mogalakwena Magisterial District are invited and encouraged to join the association. For further information kindly contact the chairperson at ehoniball@potties.co.za or on (015) 491 4273.
