Tzaneen labour official nabbed for corruption

A 34-year-old official from the Department of Labour was arrested after attempting to bribe a business owner, said the Hawks

LIMPOPO – The suspect was arrested for corruption by the Hawks on Friday (Yesterday).

The complainant, an owner of a construction company, is constructing a school in Xihoko Village near Tzaneen, said Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

The suspect allegedly met with the complainant to discuss construction related issues. He demanded R19 000 from the complainant in order to be issued with a certificate of compliance. This amount was later reduced to R4 000.

The complainant reported the matter to the Hawks and a trap was set whereby the suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the money he had demanded from the complainant.

The suspect will appear in Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on 2 May on a charge of corruption.

Investigations continue.
