Search for missing Polokwane man continues

Marius Jacobs of SA Community Crime Watch says Len Matthysen (52) was on his way to Tzaneen but never reached his destination

POLOKWANE – Information about the location of a cellphone signal in plantations between Westfalia and Modjadjiskloof led to the expansive search for 52-year-old Len Matthysen on Tuesday (yesterday).

Matthysen was last seen on Monday at approximately 16:00 at a take-away outlet in Polokwane. According to Marius Jacobs of SA Community Crime Watch, Matthysen was on his way to Tzaneen but never reached his destination.

“We launched an expansive search under tough, wet and slippery conditions in the area where his cellphone signal was picked up, but it was to no avail. Because of the poor weather, we cannot send a helicopter to the area but as soon as the weather clears up we will be able to add aerial support to the search,” he explained.

According to Jacobs, the cellphone is now off.

He continued, saying Matthysen drove a silver Kia Sportage with registration number KLW 009 GP. He has brown hair and is of average build. Matthysen is disabled with both his legs amputated and a malformed left arm.

“His ex-wife, who lives in Randburg, is very worried about him as he is not very mobile,” Jacobs said.

Any information that could lead to Matthysen being found will be appreciated. Contact the police at 015 290 6577 or Marius Jacobs at 079 898 4539.
