Lim SAPS crack down on drugs in the province

The police in Limpopo have made a concerted effort to continue the fight against crime in the province.

LIMPOPO- A recent joint operation focused on crime infested areas around Limpopo, making an impact with 28 suspects arrested for drug related crimes and possession.

In Burgersfort, the K9 Unit and the provincial drugs task team arrested five suspects between the ages of 20 and 36-years-old for possession of drugs, possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition and the following items were recovered:

– Two sachets of ‘rock’ valued at R300.

– Five grams of Nyaope powder valued at R700.

– 17 sachets of nyaope valued at R1 500.

– 0.95 grams of dagga valued R350.

– A Mazda 626.

–  9 x 9mm ammunition.

– One empty magazine.

– Three rounds of R5 rifle ammunition.

In Bela-Bela, eight suspects between the ages of 28 and 41-years-old were arrested for possession of drugs, housebreaking and theft and the following items were recovered:

– 1 017 ecstasy tablets to the estimated value of R152 550.

– Two containers of stolen petrol.

  • In Jane Furse, a 24-year-old man was arrested for possession of dagga and 4,810 kg of dagga with the estimated value of R8000 was recovered.
  • In Westernburg, a 31-year-old man was arrested for possession of dagga and 20kg of dagga to the value of R70 000 was recovered.
  • In Lephalale, four suspects aged 25 and 31-years-old were arrested for possession of drugs, house breaking and theft. Two cell phones and drugs were recovered.

In Groblesdal, Seshego, Northam, Makhado and Giyani, nine suspects aged between 19 and 44-years-old were arrested for possession of drugs, theft, house breaking and house robbery.

Police spokesperson Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspects will appear before respective magistrate courts soon.

“Police investigations continue,” he concluded.
