More contractors brought in to finish Ext 100

So far, 19 households call Bendor Ext 100 their home

POLOKWANE – More than 10 years since the first mention of the integrated human settlement project in Bendor Ext 100, the first buildings received their final touches in February 2015.

According to Site Manager, JJ Swanepoel, another 15 homes are set to be occupied within the next couple of months.

While the infrastructure for the area was already completed in 2013, the project came to a standstill for just over a year.

Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) MEC, Makoma Makurupetje, said in her budget speech that the project has made huge progress with the completion of 34 units and an additional 27 under construction.

She said that within the 2017/18 financial year the project will be revitalised with additional contractors brought in to complete the balance of the remaining 600 units (180 freestanding units are completed).

The objective of the project is to deliver an integrated human settlement environment where people live, work, play, and pray.

More contractors have been assigned to help the completion of Bendor Ext 100.

“We want to make every person’s dream of having their own house a reality,” Swanepoel told BONUS during an earlier interview.

In February 2015, a total of 170 people had been approved for housing in the development.

Bendor Ext 100 was introduced by CoGHSTA to facilitate the development of an integrated human settlement in a well-located area that provided convenient access to urban amenities, including places of employment.

Gap housing is the creation and promotion by the government of housing opportunities, in partnership with the private sector, for people earning a combined monthly income that is too high to qualify for a free house from government, and too low to qualify for a bank bond.

The following units will be built at Ext 100:

• 198 institutional units (affordable rental).

• 180 bonded freestanding cluster units (gap).

• 119 freestanding units.

• 74 economy townhouse units.

• 90 luxury townhouse units.
