Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Ndumiso Matlala welcomed all tourists and visitors in the province for the Easter holidays.
He appealed to the industry, service sector and citizens of Limpopo to welcome everybody with a smile and assist them wherever possible.
“The province is known for receiving a huge influx of tourists and people visiting the province for various reasons. It is during this time of the year when most of the tourism establishments and other recreational facilities report full occupancy. LTA would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody visiting the province a warm Limpopo welcome and a memorable Easter holiday,” Matlala said.
He stressed that the agency wishes to appeal to all potential guests to confirm reservations and arrive in time at their various tourism destinations to avoid disappointment. “Some tourism establishments use the quota system while others use a strict reservations or first-come first-served system. It is important for people to ensure that their bookings are done in time,” Matlala said.
Matlala also assured tourists that, despite high levels of violence and crime occurring in the province, they will be safe during their stay. “The safety of tourist remains our top priority. We have safety tips in place to guide tourists. We have full confidence in the law enforcement agencies of the country and we are confident that tourist will be safe when visiting our province,” Matlala said.
Fixon Hlungwani, Executive Director Commercial Operations at the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism said the current bookings for resorts with accommodation stand at 13,5 % bearing in mind that most of the guests over the holiday are walk-ins which means short notices bookings, so the current booking figures may change.
Hlungwane also indicated that recreational facilities’ occupancies are not included in the figures as they are measured in terms of the numbers of client received daily.
He said Doorndraai Dam Nature Reserve, Nylsvley Nature Resort and Mphephu Resort were the preferred tourist attractions during the Easter holidays.
